15th Int. Rupert Hollaus Memorial Race at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg/Styria, 18. – 19. 8. 2018

Just one week after the Moto-GP, the Red Bull Ring hosted the 15th Int. Rupert Hollaus Memorial Race. More than 350 riders had entered and the temperatures were truly mid-summery. Giacomo Agostini, Giancarlo Falappa, Peter Williams, Bruno Kneubühler and Heinz Rosner were guests of honour.

Two riders were flying the LAVERDA-flag: Horst Scheuer on his classic 1200 and our Bavarian friend Willi Werndl on two LAVERDA 1000 race bikes and his Zane 750 Formula. Horst had also entered a BIMOTA that had been painted by Otto Zitko and got spiritedly ridden by Diego Dressino, an old Italian warhorse.

Saturday was dedicated to practice and qualification runs and on Sunday the "Silver-Run" of 10 minutes plus one lap and the "Gold-Run" of 15 minutes plus one lap were held.

Willi Werndl had to deal with problems with carburettor synchronisation on his new 1000 SFC racer. In the first race Horst delivered lap-times of 1:54 finishing 6th. In the 'Gold-Run' however he made a vast improvement: On his orange LAVERDA 1200 he put down a fantastic 1:51.911 finishing 10th. Willis times were somewhat restrained. On his 1000 he finished 11th, on the Zane 750 13th. Diego steadily improved his lap times but had to retire in the first race due to a failed fuel pump. In the second race he did a fantastic 1:47.772 and finished 7th in his class.

Many thanks to Erich Müllegger for the fantastic pictures!
