In the 70s, the road from Bad Mühllacken to Lacken was the world's fastest hill climb track. It was there that Niki Lauda raced for the very first time in his life!
On 2 August the whole town of Bad Mühllacken turned into a paddock: 40 top-class motorcycles and 140 racing cars were lined up. Hubert Furtner was in charge of selecting the motorcycles and there were prestigious names like Karl Zach, Robert Müller or Hans Steinhögl amongst the entrants.
Five LAVERDAs were set to compete in this revival: Bruno Aschauer - LAVERDA 500, Markus Krenn - LAVERDA 500 Barcelona, Gert Schnögl - LAVERDA 750 SFC, Wolfgang Schulz - LAVERDA 1000 3CL and Erich Weidenholzer/Phillip Mallinger with their LAVERDA 750 sidecar. Andreas Bachtrögler joined with his DUCATI 600 TT2 Replic, Josef Gastinger rode one of his GUZZIs.
The first heat could still be held in dry conditions, during the second one however heavy rain had set in. It is wonderful to see how a whole small town facilitates and celebrates such a motor sports event. And the icing on the cake, thanks to the wonderful organisers; at the presentation ceremony every single entrant was awarded a trophy!
